Only 39% of Americans plan to make a New Year's resolution this year, but 93% of those who will, say they'll keep it, according to the latest Rasmussen Reports national survey.
But doesn't everyone who makes a resolution plan to keep it? And why do we bother to make resolutions when they seem to be like piñatas -- meant to be broken?
Well, I've got an idea that was sparked by something I recently read, and I think it is going to help me this year and I think it may help you, too. Instead of basing resolutions on wishful thinking, how about resolving in 2010 to have no regrets for the year?
A recent Columbia University survey showed that it’s not indulgence that drives regret. It’s the stuff we didn’t do. So, instead of the grind of trying not to do something -- ie not spend too much money, don't overeat/diet -- by resolving to have no regrets we take the opposite or positive route. Yes, it will take determination, but with a sense of liberty.
Mark Twain once said, “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do...so sail away from the safe harbor...catch the trade winds in your sails!"
Don't just watch others and admire their success, their spunk, their dedication -- YOU launch out -- looking for Breakthroughs -- for open doors -- and go right through them!
While the world and politicians continue follow their agendas rather than do what is best for the people, (50% of American expect the U.S. will be in Recession at the end of 2010), we can determine to rise up to the challenges, despite what current circumstances are, and make a difference in 2010 for our lives and the lives of others -- by choosing to make it a year of no regrets.
2009 was a year of Wake-up Calls! in our nation. 2010 I believe is going to be a year of Breakthroughs! Let's live as if we believe it...Let's live as if we mean it!
After all, what have we got to lose but the grind, the fear, the worry?
Here's to Breakthroughs in our nation, in our world, in our lives!
